Mr. Sun Customer Testimonials

Solar Electric / Photovoltaic (PV):

“We had the ETO [Energy Trust of Oregon] inspection today and I think it went well. The inspector was impressed with the quality of your work and with how efficient the array seems to be operating. He commented on how the 3 modules on the south roof were tilted at just the right angle. After 4 days (one of them rainy), the net meter shows we are producing more power than Pacific Power is supplying. And that includes one 24 hour run of my large glass kiln (240V/30A). Today will be our first 10kWh day. Thank you for all your help through the inspection and installation. Please send our thanks to Pete, Josh, Jason, and all the others who were involved in designing and installing our system. Several of the doctors & nurses I work with are interested in solar – I gave them your contact information.”
- Ted Whitney, Solarize Northeast Portland customer

“[It's been] pretty rainy, yes…but since the days were longer we still generated over 100 kWh more than we used! Woohoo! I’m beginning to think that we’ll have a $9.77/month PGE bill until we add an EV to our base load! Stoked. Just stoked.”
- Greg Harr, Solarize Northwest Portland customer

“We met the folks from Mr. Sun Solar at a home and garden show in Portland and had a nice interaction. When we got to the point where we were ready to be serious about solar, we contacted Mr. Sun and had a rep come to our house. He spent quite a bit of time here, talking with us and answering our questions. We received a bid not long after and just for good measure, we contacted another solar installer for comparison. The bid we received from the other installer, located in California, was lower and we learned the panels were made in China. We were told the bid would be more if the panels were manufactured in the US.

We opted for Mr. Sun for a number of reasons. It’s important to us to spend our dollars as locally as we can. We appreciated the site visits we received and how easy the process was. It’s really great that the panels are made right here in Oregon. There are numerous factors that went into our decision to install a solar collection system and supporting the local folks was an important one. We also really appreciate and embrace the philosophy that guides the company.

We would highly recommend Mr. Solar for a wide range of reasons, sustainability and locality being high on the list.”
- Susan Schechter, Salem, OR

“I just love my solar photovoltaic system installed by Mr. Sun. Nearly my entire south facing roof is covered with 3 kilowatts of PV and the Sol-Reliant solar water heater. Both systems are totally reliable. I’ve never had to do a thing except watch the meter spin backwards. During the summer my usage from the utility is zero: 100% of my electrical power and water heating is supplied by solar energy. I’m still enthusiastic after all these years. I found Mr. Sun to be highly qualified and very competent. John, I recommend you all the time!”
- Barbara Beebe, Canby, OR

“My solar electric system is absolutely wonderful! It has had a huge impact over time. Combined with other energy saving strategies, I estimate $75 per month. I enjoy the small electric bills in the sunnier months. Working with Mr. Sun was a pleasure. The job was perfect! The solar modules blend beautifully into the roof. I’ve just decided, after 5 years, to add to my initial system by installing 50% more capacity. It’s great to be able to do this and at a surprisingly low price.”
- Louise Larson, Salem, OR

“As an architect, I chose Mr. Sun for their unmatched experience in both solar hot water and photovoltaic installations. I am very happy with the performance of both systems. I’ve never had a single service call on either system. Every day the sun shines is a free energy day for me. The local building inspector commented, “Obviously you (Mr. Sun) know what you’re doing.” He passed the work without question. I would recommend Mr. Sun without hesitation.”
- Brent Denhart, Portland, OR

“I’m completely delighted with my PV system. I was very concerned about aesthetics and the installation is neat, clean and attractive. The moment we threw the switch and started up the system our meter went backwards. The installation team was knowledgeable and professional. I’m very happy with the whole installation.”
- Jim Campbell, Portland, OR

Solar Water Heating:

“We have purchased three Mr. Sun hot water systems and are delighted with all of them. Besides simple payback, the net operating income on the building is $500 greater per year because of the reduced utility cost. If buildings are worth 10 times the net income, as appraisers say, then the solar improvement increased the value of my building by $5,000. This is more than twice what I actually paid for the solar system installed! In looking at solar as an investment, it outperforms nearly every other investment I own. For every $1,000 I’ve invested in solar, I’m realizing at least a $250 per year cash return. That’s 25%. No where else am I getting that kind of consistent return. I just wish I owned more buildings that I could put solar on. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it.”
- Dr. Gene Davis, Beaverton, OR

“I love my SOL-RELIANT system, and so do my neighbors! It really looks and works great. It ended up being lower in price than other systems I compared it with and it’s reduced my utility bills a lot.”
- Joy Wolf, Portland, OR

“SOL-RELIANT is unobtrusive. I like how easy it is to operate. It takes care of itself. I like that I’m doing something significant for the environment.”
- Jonathan Dubay, Portland, OR

“It is my firm opinion that a two to four panel solar (roof) system (installed properly) will add approximately $4500 to $6500 (relative to added features) value to an existing house. As a matter of fact, I just completed an appraisal of a house in Gresham, Oregon today in which I will add $5,600 to the overall market due to installation of a two-panel (roof) hot water solar system.”
- Ernie White, former State Director of National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers

“Ten years ago you installed our solar water heating system. In all that time we have had not one single problem. We have enjoyed a decade of free solar hot water. It was so good to call you after 10 years and have the same person who installed it come out. You did a routine service check, added a little water to the solar loop, and confirmed what I thought – that the system was working perfectly. That the system has paid for itself many times over is without question. We know we are saving and we know we enjoy all that free hot water. “
- Walter Melrose, Portland, OR

“The solar water heater installed in early February is working great! Even with the temperature outside in the 30s, the Sol-Reliant is reaching 110 degrees Fahrenheit. We could not be happier with the system.”
- Loren Jahraus, Lake Oswego, OR

“As a solar advocate and installer for 20 years I am very keen on the Sol-Reliant system. It’s the easiest to install system I know of and it works great. I like the one-hole roof flashing.”
- John Zagunas, President of Act On Solar, Treasurer Solar Washington, Lifetime member American Solar Energy Society (ASES)

“My SOL-RELIANT system is working great! I like the fact that it works even if the power goes out.”
- Michael Parker, Portland, OR

Solar Pool Heating:

“Our goal was to heat the pool with solar and avoid replacing the gas heater. Not only did the solar completely heat the pool, we were able to keep the pool open an extra month! The pool was still 80 degrees in mid-October! The owner is especially happy. By reducing his operating expenses by $600 per year, we have increased the value of the building by $6,000 even though the solar was less than $3,000. WHAT A GREAT INVESTMENT!!”
- Rick Terrell, Appleton Properties, Tigard, OR

“We are very pleased with our solar pool heating system. We are enjoying the pool more than ever. We have had swim parties in April and October. I remember one beautiful day last September. It was September 10th. The pool was 89 degrees and the outlet coming from the solar panels was even warmer than that! All that FREE hot water!”
- Cam Ely, Beaverton, OR
